So . . . it’s what you preface an answer with these days, apparently.
In the old days, when someone was questioned,
And they needed a moment to dwell
On their answer, they’d think for a moment,
Then the first thing they’d say would be “Well . . .”
But now, have you noticed? It’s changing.

When people explain what they’re thinking,
They all start their answer with “So . . .”
I hope it’s a transient fashion,
It’s one I shall strive to repel.
I’ll stick with the old-fashioned version:
If I need time to think, I’ll say “Well . . .”
