Things take longer nowadays

And I think I know why…

Things take longer nowadays.
It wasn’t always so:
My life-clock’s dial, once set to ‘Brisk’
Has fallen back to ‘Slow’.

I’m past the age that Shakespeare missed¹
And ‘clickety-click’s gone by²,
My “threescore years and ten” have gone³,
And I’ve got slower – why?

I reckon that Dark Energy
Affects my life: day by day:
It’s expanding the Universe around me,
And everything’s further away.

So the older I get, the more distant
Things are, than in days of yore;
And that’s why things take longer
Than they ever did before!
