Trust your legs

Do you sometimes go somewhere and can’t remember what it was you went there for? I do, but I usually find that my legs have nevertheless taken me to the right place. All I have to do then is look around to find the answer.

“I’ve forgotten why I came here,”
I’m often heard to cry.
Perhaps if I retrace my steps
I shall remember why…

I trust my legs to lead me
To the place I’m meant to be.
(I think they’ve got a back-up brain
That helps my memory.)

Trouble is, when I get there,
I’ll know the place is right
But what was it I came for?
Is it hiding out of sight?

The trick, I’ve found, is often
To stay just where you are:
Look up and down and round about –
The answer won’t be far.
